A Halloween weekend - A strange night with ‘Ted can't hear ya'
'The Prince of Wales', Strood, 27 October 2006

I have been to many TCHY gigs now and I really like this band - but please bear with me on this one, as there's a story to tell!

Well it was the Halloween weekend, Witches, fireworks and spirits were abound, as I wandered in to the Prince of Wales.

The volume for a 'Ted can't hear ya' gig was quite quiet, by their standards that we all know and love by now. Pleasant though as I could hear clearly Lucy's excellent and ever improving vocals. Paul mentioned that Lucy's mum and dad were in at the last gig and complained that it was too loud! - They were there again on this night  - so the band had kept the volume down a bit specially for them! That was strange in itself cause TCHY never worry about things like that - regular TCHY goers have grown to expect high volume, high energy, spirited and emotional performances.

The first half before the beer break passed with great acoustic songs from Paul and Lucy leading the singing, and some great jibes with the crowd and with each other in the usual TCHY style. Despite a couple of  'frank opinions' and disagreements from some drunken revellers in the audience during the beer break  - the second half of the evening kicked off with the brilliant electric guitar punky jig/type instrumental 'Musical Priest'. This set the scene for what I thought was a fantastic second half. This band just gets better each time I see them!

So - lets look at the second half - Paul's first words on microphone were (and I had to laugh)  "It's all a bit rock and roll isn't it" - followed by Andy Baker remarking… "All a bit Sex Pistols…" and as they ripped in to 'Musical priest' one of my favourite TCHY tunes, the whole atmosphere in the pub changed. In an instant - the band seemed to change up a gear, and before long the whole pub was dancing around like lunatics - The TCHY mosh pit had kicked off again!

More people arrived and started dancing the minute they walked in the door, and carried on dancing all the way till the end! The floor of the Prince of Wales pub was shaking! A whole pub dancing around! It was an amazing atmosphere. I just found my self again, going to the place that only TCHY can seem to take me, as I felt instantly happy, and wanted to dance with my pint held high! Paul coming out from behind the microphones and playing his electric guitar with his usual powerful gusto to dance with the crowd summed up the night!

After the final encore all I could hear was people saying how shattered they were from dancing so much, and what a fantastic night it was, and Paul getting showered with hugs from his two beautiful daughters! Bring on the next one Xmas time 15th Dec at the same venue - I tell you - I wouldn't miss it for the world, and suggest if you have read this try the real thing go and see this band!
